Deflection

Hello,

Hope you are doing good with your chess career. So, in this post we shall see a tactical theme called - Deflection!

In some cases, we can win the game or win a piece or can have the advantage using deflection. As the name suggests, we can deflect any of our opponent's pieces which supports his other piece or pawn.

So by deflecting the supporting piece, we can get the supported piece!

I will give you an example

White to move and win.

As we can see the black queen on e7 supports the rook on d8. So we can deflect it and can with rook on d8. How could it be done?

The solution is this :

1.Qf6+ Qxf6 2.exf6+ Kxf6 3.Rxd8 Rxd8 4.Rxd8 and white is a rook up!

I hope you enjoyed this post, will see you in the next one!

Thank you!
